Background of the Study
Corporate culture plays a significant role in shaping the work environment, influencing employee behavior, motivation, and overall job satisfaction. A positive corporate culture fosters employee commitment, enhances productivity, and improves retention rates (Ajayi & Olatunji, 2023). United Bank for Africa (UBA) is a leading financial institution in Nigeria, with a large presence across the country, including Jigawa State.
In Jigawa, where the economy largely relies on agriculture and small businesses, employees in the banking sector face unique challenges. Understanding how UBA’s corporate culture influences job satisfaction is critical to ensuring employee retention and improving service delivery. The bank has made concerted efforts to create a dynamic work environment through employee engagement initiatives, training programs, and welfare schemes. However, how these initiatives correlate with job satisfaction remains underexplored. This study aims to assess UBA's corporate culture and its impact on employee job satisfaction in Jigawa State.
Statement of the Problem
Many organizations face challenges in aligning their corporate culture with employee expectations, which can result in dissatisfaction, decreased morale, and high turnover rates. In UBA, Jigawa State, employee satisfaction is crucial for improving performance and ensuring service quality. However, despite the bank's focus on creating an inclusive and supportive work environment, employee satisfaction levels remain inconsistent (Ogunwusi & Adebanjo, 2024). There is a need to evaluate whether the corporate culture at UBA positively influences job satisfaction.
